Sphalerite on pyrite - Elba island, Tuscany, Italy
Association of pyrite of a very nice brilliance and of sphalerite crystals for the most part of tetrahedral form as well as of galena having a "melted" aspect.
We acquired this piece as coming from the elba island in Italy (whose last iron mine was closed in the early 1980s). This provenance is quite probable, despite the rarity of the association of pyrite, sphalerite and galena. But this one being difficult to verify in spite of our researches, and the facies not being typical of the locality, we must put a damper on it.
The price has therefore been revised downwards. It is correct for the quality of the specimen in spite of the doubts on the origin, and it is a very good deal if it turns out to come from the Elba island.
6,5 x 4,5 x 2 cm.
