Goethite - Les Redoutières quarry, Chaillac, Indre, France
Geode of goethite crystallized in two forms: in velvet-gray microcrystals lining the walls of the geode, and in black and brilliant blades, centimetric, perfectly finished. This dark mineralization contrasts with the presence of small white and shiny blades of barite. It would be tempting to trim the piece a bit but this would be to lose the typical paragenetic succession that composes the gangue. The Redoutières open pit mine is closed and inaccessible since 2006.
