Pyrite and hematite - Valle Giove mine, Rio Marina, Elba island, Tuscany, Italy
Superb group of dodecahedral crystals of very bright pyrite, intact (but incomplete at the back), on a matrix of lamellar hematite. The pyrite shows on its faces scars left by old hematite crystals. This piece is the result of a relatively recent (2013) and unique discovery, dedicated to finance the rehabilitation of the mining park of the island of Elba. This park can now be visited and the collection of samples is prohibited, except, a priori quickly, during supervised visits.
