FERBERITE, PYRITE and SIDERITE - Panasqueira Mines, Covilha, Castelo Branco, Portugal
This specimen combines Ferberite, Pyrite and Siderite from the famous and historical mines of Panasqueira in Cosplash, in the district of Castelo Branco in Portugal, the absolute world reference for the crystallization of the species. The piece revolves around a large and powerful vertical ferberite crystal with well-defined faces. In a deep jet black, it reveals an exceptional sub-metallic sheen and characteristic longitudinal striations that capture light intensely. This major prism is beautifully highlighted at its base by a dense crust of ultra-shiny golden pyrite micro-crystals, offering a superb contrast of colors. A few rosettes of beige siderite in lenticular crystals come to crown the flank of the specimen, completing a classical and highly representative paragenesis of this first-order European deposit.
