PYRITE and HEMATITE - Rio Marina, Rio, Livorno, Tuscany, Italy
This specimen combines crystallized pyrite and hematite from the historic deposit of Rio Marina on the Island of Elba in Italy. The piece revolves around an imposing, unique and well-individualized pyritohedral pyrite crystal, displaying a deep golden color and geometric faces with sharp edges. The top of the mineral is crowned by a superb agglomeration of hematite crystals in fine intersecting blades, of an intense jet black color and endowed with an exceptional specular metallic luster. The striking contrast between the golden cubic structure of pyrite and the shimmering formication of hematite makes it a particularly aesthetic and dynamic showcase sample. A timeless classic of European mineralogy.
