CHALCOPYRITE and SIDERITE - Kaiwu Mine, Hezhang, Bijie, Guizhou, China
This specimen combines chalcopyrite and siderite from the famous Kaiwu mine in Hezhang, Guizhou Province, China. The coin has on its upper part a dense cluster of pseudo-tetrahedral crystals of chalcopyrite with sharp edges. They are distinguished by a powerful metallic sheen and a remarkable natural iridescence, offering warm and intense shades of copper, purple and gold. These sulphides rest in paragenesis on a mat of honey-brown siderite crystals with golden reflections, whose habitus in lenses and imbricated blades forms a very graphic petals structure. The marked contrast of shapes, textures and colors makes this sample of 130 grams a particularly aesthetic and balanced piece of showcase.
